For those of you who have not yet heard the news, Gavin & Kindli are excited to announce the newest member of their family will be arriving in mid-February. Right now, our gender-unknown little one is being affectionately referred to as “the Pudge” (sort of like the anonymous, very brilliant, Stig on Top Gear).
To answer all the questions we’ve been inundated with, we’ve given the Pudge it’s own tab on our website, and created an FAQ. The Pudge’s tab will be periodically updated through out the process, and you can track it’s process with the baby tracker at the top of the page.
Several months ago I unearthed some mystery bulbs that were sitting in a pot that had been left by the previous tenant. My MIL and I planted them in the lower tier of the garden. They dutifully sprouted into generic looking, slightly tropical, long leafy things. About a week ago, I noticed they were blooming.

I have no idea what sort of flowers they are, they’re pretty, and they bloomed on their own after some neglect. Always good things.
Yesterday Demon Kitty came over to visit us. I’d been out watering the yard and I left the screen door open.

When I came back inside, DK was basking in the sunlight cleaning himself.

Yes, we’re still alive, we’ve just been busy and nothing all that exciting has been happening. Our yard is still alive, we’re both working, I haven’t had much time to bake anything worth talking about, and we’ve started watching the Olympics.
I realize I did not write about the books I read in July. I did read several, most of them on our trip to Oregon. None of them were particularly good, or memorable, so I don’t feel bad about leaving them out.
I’m going to go back to do doing laundry now.
The mystery plant bloomed, I think everyone was right, it does look like a lilly of sorts.

This week Gavin is back in Portland, OR for a conference. To help the time pass I’m (finally) assembling photo albums with Aperture. I’ve finished our first year together (May ‘06-’07), including our trip to Germany in April 2007.

The second year (May ‘07-’08) is mostly compete, I just need to add captions. I’ve just started the third year (May ‘08 forward). They’re fun and colorful. Eventually we’ll get them printed.
I’ve also made a vat of chili, my fingers still smell like onion.

We’re back from Oregon (we drove up July 6), we got in Saturday afternoon and Nick picked us up @ the Santa Rosa airport. SR has a quirky little airport, I highly recommend flying into it at least once.
Our adventure started Sunday, when we stayed at a little motor lodge in Humbolt County. A family friend owned the motor lodge and was renting out most of the buildings to homeless people. They also own other properties in the area, and are working to help the community.
Monday we drove to Gold Coast, OR, over nighted in a lovely condo, and Tuesday we took one of Jerry’s Rogue Jet Boats up the river.
Tuesday night we arrived at the house in Waldport (between Florence and Newport). The next few days are a blur of car rides and napping. We visited the Aquarium in Newport, the dunes outside Florence and the bog with the bug eating plants (very cool).
Eventually I’m going to upload photos, and my FIL has promised to send me the ones he took as well.
This month I didn’t do much reading. I didn’t really feel inspired and other things were going on.
Bellweather came highly recommend by Gavin. I’m still not entirely sure what the book was about. There were scientists, sheep and an unhelpful office girl. I picked it up and put it down, lost track of what was happening, and it didn’t seem to matter much. I’m sure Gavin will disagree.
I’ve read Poirot Loses a Client several dozen times now. I knew who did it before I picked up the book, but it made for nice evening reading.
Perhaps July’s readings will be more interesting.
A few months back some small green shoots poked above the ground. I hadn’t planted anything in the corner where they were occurring, but I welcome most low maintenance plants that show up on their own.

I have no idea what this plant is, there is a smaller one next to it (lower right corner). Does any one have any idea what it might be?
